56.  BEYOND BASIC BOXES

Pete & Pam Boorum

Thursday 9am-5pm                   $115

We have designed three unusual boxes that will stand out in any room setting. One box is quarter-sawn cherry, one is African Red Heart and the third is constructed from dark brown Aromata.  The cherry box uses rabbeted construction and has a sliding paneled lid.  We added a buffed finish but you can leave it natural and apply any stain or paint at home that is suitable for your setting.  The second box is made from exotic African Red Heart which has a distinctive natural color, is joined with miters and has an overhanging press-fit lid.  Finally, there is an octagonal box made from dark brown South American Aromata.  It has a simple pattern on the sides and a rounded top.  The two Exotic boxes will be buffed to a finish in class.
This is a hands on class using the Proxxon Tilting Arbor Table Saw. a shaper and a buffer.  You will learn to make several standard woodworking joints and an elegant method of finishing.  The one day class is encouraged for beginners and might be interesting to the more experienced.  Completion is very likely.
