Queen Catherine’s Room

7.  SHAKESPEARE OR CATHERINE?  THAT IS THE QUESTION!

Sue & Eamonn O’Rourke

Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday                    9am-5pm                           $935

As usual, we are offering two different treatments of the same size box in one workshop, all you have to do is decide which one you’d like to do…and in which scale  – ½” or 1”; please advise which you prefer when booking.
Choice 1: Shakespeare’s Study - This is a lovely room box celebrating the talent of the ‘Bard of Avon’ William Shakespeare.  The model is based on furniture and the rooms of Anne Hathaway’s cottage in Stratford-upon-Avon.  You will learn several techniques as you create a beamed ceiling, daubed walls, a planked floor and a corner fireplace which can be converted to a cooking range.   Primarily we will be creating the space where Shakespeare penned many of his famous works. Love’s labour’s will not be lost!

Choice 2: Queen Catherine’s Room - This is an unusual and historically accurate insight into the love of Henry V’s wife, Catherine of Valois.  The box can be decorated in the style of any of Catherine’s rooms, including her bedchamber or Privy chamber. We have opted for her bathroom.   The bath, which would have been a rare addition to any household, royal or otherwise, will be available to purchase as a separate kit.  You will learn the techniques for wood panelling, wooden flooring, creating stone walls and building a fireplace.  As ever, we will be teaching several techniques which apply to this class but are easily transferable to other miniature projects. The internal layout for both options is identical but you will learn how, with a bit of imagination, lateral thinking and using different finishing techniques you can totally change the look of a project.
You will receive 2 free lights with the class, one wall sconce and an LED but there will be others for sale at the show.  The structure is designed to be ‘travel friendly’ measuring 15” x 22” x 9.5” it will fit into a large, airline approved suitcase. A removable stand will add approximately 2” to the height if assembled.

All supplies are provided by the instructorexcept as indicated, however, students are welcome to bring their own tools & supplies.
